A. Introduction :-
One of the popular means of modern technology-based education is the use of computers. The need for computer-based learning is very important in the classroom learning process. Information is collected by utilizing the capabilities of the computer through various hardware and software included in the computer. Therefore, a system software that breathes life into the computer is the operating system.
- Meaning of Operating System :-
Operating System is basically a system software. The software that coordinates the different parts of a computer and manages the application software by utilizing the capabilities of the computer is the operating system. The operating system is a software that creates a bridge between the user. Just as a computer is immobile without an operating system, the operating system controls the input-output devices of the computer’s programming, and helps to keep a computer running by booting it. Examples – DOS, Mac OS, Unix, Linux & Windows-7, 8, 10, 11 etc.
- Function of Operating System :-
Operating System takes input from users into the computer and distributes and manages the internal parts or resources of the computer with the help of various application software, providing information to the user.
The main functions of the operating system are-
- The operating system provides communication coordination and management of various software with the user.
- Helps to keep the computer running and make it usable.
- The operating system controls the task management program and receives instructions.
- The operating system provides security to the computer, updates the system regularly.
- The operating system controls the BIOS of the computer and manages the hardware with the help of application software.
3. Types of Operating System :-
According to the method of computer management, the different types of operating systems are discussed below –
- Single user Operating System.
- Batch processing operating system.
- Multiprocessing operating system.
- Multi programming operating system.
- Real time operating system.
- Time sharing operating system.
- Distribute operating system etc.
B. Objectives :-
To complete the discussed practical, the objectives that can be known are –
- What is Educational Technology Science? You will get an idea about it.
- What is meant by operating system? You will get to know about it.
- You will get an idea about different types of operating systems.
- You will get an idea about how to install an operating system to keep a computer running.
- You will get to know the operating system installation methods.
- You will get an idea about Windows as an operating system.
- You will get information about the requirements of the operating system.
- You will get to know about the usefulness of application software.
C. Methodology :-
For computer-based teaching, first the operating system has to be installed on the computer. To install the operating system on the computer, first a Bootable Pendrive or CD-ROM is required. Then the Windows operating system has to be installed through the bootable pendrive or CD. However, to install the Operating System of the computer, you have to follow some steps with caution step by step.
- Process of Installation Operating System :-
To install the operating system on the computer, the following steps have to be followed. Here the Windows -7 operating system installation method is discussed.
STEP – 1
First, insert the Windows -7 bootable Pendrive into the USB port or CD ROM drive. Then turn on the computer and press the F2 or Del button on the keyboard before any image appears on the screen. Then the BIOS setting of the Zebronics motherboard of the computer will open. It will show on the display.
STEP – 2
Then the BIOS setting of the motherboard will open. Which will show on the display. Where you have to click on the boot option. By clicking on the Boot option, if there is a bootable pendrive in the Boot Option Priorities option, then you have to select the pendrive. Or if there is a bootable CD, then you have to select the CD ROM option. Remember that the first Boot Option #1 should always be set to the Windows-7 bootable Pendrive or CD/DVD.
STEP – 3
Then click on the Save & Exit option of the motherboard BIOS Settings, the Save & reset option will appear. If it is correct, then click on the YES option.
STEP – 4
Then the computer will shut down and restart. After that, the display will show Press any key to boot from USB /CD…. Then press the space button on the keyboard.
STEP – 5
Then window is loading files.. the page will open and the window installation process will start.
STEP – 6
After some time of loading, a new page will open, a new image display will be seen. There Starting Window will be written.
STEP – 7
After waiting for a while, a new image or skin will be seen. Then for the windows 7 installation process, you have to select the language in the Language Input option. It is better to select the English language there. Then you have to change the Time & Currency format. There you can select English India. Then you can select U.S in the Keyboard & Input Method option. After that, you have to click on the Next option.
STEP – 8
Then another screen of Windows will open. There you have to click on the windows 7, Install Now option.
STEP – 9
After clicking on the Install Now option. Another screen like the image below will appear, where it will be written Setup is Starting.
STEP – 10
Then a new screen or page like the image below will open. There Microsoft software licence term will be written and there you have to check the box I except licence term and then click on the Next button.
STEP – 11
Then a new screen or page will open like the image below. It will say Select the OS and here you have to select the Operating System version of Windows Seven. After selecting Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit operating system, click on the Next button.
STEP – 12
Then another screen like the image will appear, there Which is type of installation do you want? This option will appear. There will be two options, out of these two options, you have to select the Custom option. Because in the case of Update option, windows can be updated from one version to another. But in the case of New installation, you have to click or select the Custom option.
STEP – 13
Then the Where do you want to Install window? screen will appear as shown below. This is a disk partition page. Where Windows SSD or HDD partition is to be made. There you will see the hardware connected to the motherboard. That is, SSD or HDD will show. Then you have to partition the SSD as you like. Always remember, in the partition – System Reserve and Primary Disk will show. Windows 7 will be installed on the Primary Disk. Select Primary and click Disk Partition 2, Primary and click Next.
STEP – 14
Then a screen will appear on the computer as shown below. Where the Installation Windows processing will start. Installing window files.. will load and show up to 100 percentage. Then the installation will be complete.
STEP – 15
Then after the complete installation, a screen like the one below will appear. Where Windows needs to restart to continue will show, and immediately after the computer restarts, the computer needs to open the Bootable Pendrive or CD inserted in the computer or remove it from the computer. Otherwise, it will start to boot again.
STEP – 16
Then the screen saying Windows Starting will appear and Windows has been completely installed.
STEP – 17
Then the Setup is preparing your computer for first use option will appear and then the video performance check option will also appear.
STEP – 18
Then a screen like the one shown below will appear. Where the Set up Window, and the windows 7 Ultimate operating system will show. There you have to input Typing user name, that is, you have to input a name on the personal computer. Then click on the Next option.
STEP – 19
Then another Set up window page will open like the one shown below. Where you have to input the type of password and the type of password hidden. Then click on the Next option.
STEP – 20
Then another Set up windows page will appear like the image below. Type your window Product key. Here you must input Windows genuine Product key and click on Next option. Otherwise, click on Skip option.
STEP – 21
Then another screen will appear like the image below. Where you can click on Use recommended option. If Windows is not genuine or there is no Windows product key, if there is no product key, then you have to click on Ask me later option. Then click on Next option.
STEP – 22
Then another page will open like the image below. There it will automatically show Date & Time setting. If the time and date are correct, then click on the Next option.
STEP – 23
Then another page will open like the image below. A picture or screen of Windows 7 Ultimate repairing settings will be seen. After that, Windows will restart, and windows is finalised your setting option will show.
STEP – 24
Then another page will open like the image below. There, a screen like the image below will be written Setup will continue after restarting your computer. After that, Windows will restart.
STEP – 25
Then Windows 7 will be completely installed, and Windows 7 Ultimate version will show. Then windows LAN connection will have to be set up. Along with that, all the software has to be installed. Which requires all the application and utility software to operate Windows 7 operating system effectively.
D. Windows as an Operating System :-
A graphical operating system for computers created by Microsoft. Windows was launched in November 1985 to provide many of the common features of Microsoft (DOS) disk operating system. Windows is a self-contained high-quality operating system. Windows Operating System is currently used in most computers for multi-tasking operating system. In the following cases, Windows was released –
Windows 1.0/ windows 2.0/ windows NT 3.1/ windows 95/ windows 98/ windows 2000/ windows X P/windows Vista/ windows 7/ windows 8 /windows 8.1 /windows 10/ and latest version windows 11.
- Characteristic of Windows Operating System :-
The reasons for the popularity of Microsoft Windows operating system in terms of the following characteristics are –
- It releases each program through a window.
- By running multiple software at the same time, information can be exchanged very easily from one software to another.
- In this operating system, a user can do many tasks at the same time.
- By using the network, internet, email, etc. are available.
- GPU based operating system can be used to use icons or menu bars with different images.
- With the help of an input device called Mouse, Windows operating system provides many facilities.
- Description of Latest Version :-
Windows 11 is a personal computer operating system that has been released by Microsoft for its excellence. Windows 11 is a significant version of the Windows NT operating system on June 24, 2021. It was released to the public in October 2021.
Windows 11 is a major achievement since Windows 10 in 2015, which Microsoft changed their new design guidelines, user interface, etc. to provide flexibility and security to the users easily. Windows 10 had some limitations that Windows 11 was released to solve the problem. Windows 11 has been modernized the Start menu, which is known as Tux View.

E. Installation of Essential Software and Utilities :-
Computer software refers to a set of programming or practical tools with the help of which a specific task of the computer is performed. Software is a set of electronic instructions, which controls the input processing of the computer. Software can be divided into two parts,-
Application software and system software. Operating system is a system software. On the other hand, application software refers to a special type of computer program, which helps in performing a specific task. For example, office software, graphics software, media players, etc. Usually utility software is system software configured and designed in such a way that it can be used to operate the computer properly.
- PDF Reader :-
- Meaning : –
Adobe Reader is a marking computer software. However, it is world famous for creating multimedia software. But among them, Adobe PDF Reader is mentioned, which is a very useful software for accessing any PDF and editing all PDFs. It was released in December 1982.
- Installation Process of Adobe Acrobat Reader :-
First, you have to download the application from the Adobe PDF Reader official website. Then you have to install it, to install it, first you have to run the application. After running, you have to click OK and follow all the instructions, click Next and install it. After installing, Adobe PDF Reader will show on the computer’s desktop. You can select the default reader of all PDFs and show PDFs.
- Utility :-
- Once through PDF, you can easily open various PDFs, i.e. portable document files.
- You can easily highlight words in various PDFs through video editing.
- Above all, PDFs can be edited through the pet version through PDF Reader. Where PDFs can be edited very easily.
2. Internet Browser :-
- Meaning :-
Windows 7 or 10 operating system comes with Internet Explorer built-in. It is a part of the opening system but Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are quite popular as web browsers. Google Chrome is a web browser made by Google. It was first released for Microsoft Windows operating system in 2008. Currently, Google Chrome is the most widely used web browser for computers and Android phones.
- Installation Process of Google Chrome:-
First, after searching by typing Google Chrome in the Google search box. The first Google Chrome website will come. Clicking there will show the latest version of Google Chrome and then you have to download it. After downloading, you have to run the application for installation. After running, the apps will be automatically installed and updated through the internet connection.
- Utility :-
- With the help of this, information can be searched very easily.
- Various information can be collected from very low internet speed through Google Chrome.
- Recently, various Google features such as Google Mail, Google Meet, Google Translate, Google Dog, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Blogger, and YouTube can also be accessed from Google. As a result, the popularity of Google Chrome is increasing day by day.
3. Microsoft Office :-
- Meaning :-
Microsoft office is an office suite that supports desktop applications, Microsoft Windows Server and other services. This Office suite is operated by Microsoft Corporation. This company was launched in April 1975. Its founders are Bill Gates and Paul Allen.
- Installation Process of Microsoft Office :-
You have to download the Microsoft Office application from the Microsoft official website. Then you have to run the application and install it by following the step-by-step procedure. To install it, you must have the product key.
- Utility :-
- Microsoft Office is a very popular medium, where various types of writing work can be done.
- Accounting work can be done.
- Various interesting content can be presented.
- Databases can be created.
- Various information of Microsoft Word can be converted to PDF.
4.Video Player :-
- Meaning :-
VLC Media Player is an open source media software player. VLC Media Player supports various data compression file formats, which allows you to play computer network streaming videos. It first started its journey as an academic project in 1996.
- Installation Process of VLC Media Player:-
First, you have to download the application by selecting the version of the application from the VLC official website, specifying the compatibility option Windows 7 or 10. Run the downloaded application. Then follow all the steps and click Next to complete the installation.
- Utility :-
- VLC is a free open source multimedia player.
- VLC Media Player also runs on operating systems like Windows, Linux, and Android.
- We can easily watch any video through VLC media player.
5. Antivirus :-
- Meaning :-
Quick Heal is an advanced antivirus program. It was launched in 1993. It is an Indian multinational cyber security software company, located in Maharashtra, India. Despite the inbuilt security of any operating system, an Antivirus has to be installed for Total Security.
- Installation Process of Quick Heal :-
First, you have to download the Antivirus version and Windows capability from the Quick Heal official website. You have to run the downloaded Antivirus software or application. And follow all the step by step formalities. You must remember to purchase the product key from the official website. You have to install it on an internet connection.
- Utility :-
- Antivirus is an excellent means of solving various types of technical problems and protecting the computer from various malware, etc.
- Creates guidelines with complete backup.
- Provides complete security.
- Regular updates protect the entire system.
- In addition, it works as a mobile security along with the security of an operating system or a computer.
F. Conclusion :-
Finally, it can be said that the contribution of computers in the technology-based education system is undeniable. Just as the content can be presented correctly in front of the students through the use of computers in the classroom, students will also be able to participate in computer-based collaborative learning as needed. Therefore, through the installation of an operating system on a computer, students will be able to collect information from the computer in various ways. The modern education system requires the help of educational technology to present various content to the students in a simple way through distance education, online education, etc. Similarly, as a teacher, it is necessary to have an idea about various subjects. And it is also necessary to know how much the operating system of a computer is basically required. Apart from the operating system, it is necessary to have sufficient knowledge about the functionality of a computer’s application software and utility software. Only then will computer-assisted learning be implemented in the classroom in order to present the content correctly.
